  • For a trip that promised so much, the Nautilus Explorer has more than exceeded my expectations…

Well its all over bar the shouting now, just waiting for our last night dinner and the long drag back to Cabo. What a great trip, great friendly crew, who genuinely seem to get along and that permeates throughout the boat. Well run, with a good balance of safety and responsibility for yourselves. Great food, not sure I’ll be sad to see the back of the “second Breakfast” though…..my waistline will thank me. A beautiful boat with great facilities to boot, lots of space to relax and it looks like a real ocean going vessel!! In all a great trip, we’ve seen more than I hoped, Mantas on almost every dive, but how can you tire of that?!! Snorkeling with Humpback whales has to be a highlight, thanks captain Gordon!!! Hammerhead sharks on many many dives….and a surprise Whale Shark visit!! Thanks to the Nautilus crew. Nick

  • "guest blog : I have actually to admit something: always thought sharks are my favorite marine species."

Now my number one are the humpback whales, number two are giant mantas and three  are the dolphins we encountered at Socorro Island, Cabo Pierce. And what about the sharks? We had here at least Galapagos, truckloads of hammerheads, silkies, silvertips and not to mention the tons of white tips, all around Roca Partida. Well, but especially the black huge manta this morning just overwhelmed me with it s playfulness, it s interest in interaction, how we got in touch and kept it over probably 20 minutes. Not to describe…. Helluva dive again today! Benjamin L., Munich, Germany

  • Socorro Island, Captain's report.

Yesterday afternoon after our third dive we did our navy check-in at Socorro Island, no issues. Headed back to Cabo Pearce to have dinner then we departed for San Benedicto. Arrived at the Canyon around 0030 and anchored for the night. This morning started with a great dive at the Canyon. Big school of hammerhead sharks coming into the cleaning station, swimming close around everyone for the whole dive. Also had a couple of giant mantas vying for attention. Second dive at the Canyon was a little more quiet so we are just in the process of anchoring at the Boiler now. Conditions look good up here and planning two dives here this afternoon. Wx today is beautiful again, light wind from the north, sunny, swell is a long 5′ from the WNW. Planning to try a dawn dive at the Boiler tomorrow to have a look for thresher sharks. All ok onboard. • We had 5 mantas playing with us at San Benedicto like a foot away from us.

So far here we are out in paradise the weather coming out was fantastic calm everyone enjoy the dolphins while on our way. We arrive at San Benedicto and we were the only ones their had the dive site to ourselfs and perfect conditions for our check out dive. On the check out dive we all had a school of hammerhead sharks and a giant manta. Could we ask for more than that? We decided to head over to the manta city. I knew that that’s where they were going to be there waiting for us cause I saw them on the surface before we got in . We saw 5 mantas playing with us. Wow! Everyone was so excited to see the mantas, which were like a foot away from us. Its better than being at the office. Welcome to my office! We had a great first day, can’t forget the whales singing down there. I loved to hear them, it feels like I am a part of the ocean. We headed to Roca Partida, where I would say it is the best place for sighting the hammerhead sharks, Galapagos, silkys, silver tips and huge tuna. Well on the…

  • I have never seen a giant Manta being ignored! I was focused on a wall of sharks!

Can’t believe this year is as good as last year for whales. Last year at Roca Partida I had the best dives I’v ever had. Today, this morning I had the best dive I ever had at the Canyon, as soon as we hit the water we had a giant Manta just cruising along with us and after that a BIG school of Hammerhead sharks that were just doing big loops around the dive site, at one point we had a wall of sharks in front of us and as we turned to look behind us there were some more sharks at our backs, and a Black Manta that no one was paying attention to. Just hard to describe, after that we started ascending to our safety stop and the beautiful black Manta just followed us until we left the water Best Canyon dive I’v ever done. Yesterday and day before that we had amazing humpback Whale encounters at Cabo pierce Socorro, twice the whales came to our safety stop right at the dive site and check us out mind blowing experience. Thanks Socorro. DM Joel IHO
