Magdalena Bay Sardine Run - Magdalena Bay Sardine Run
Before your trip – Explore Cabo
We recommend arriving into Cabo a few days early to uncover the local sights and we make it super easy with transfers and hotel deals. Your trip coincides with peak season diving in the Sea of Cortez and we make it seamless and easy to do some extra diving from La Paz and Cabo Pulmo.
Seecreatures is your springboard for exploring all the best sites around Cabo and during the day we can arrange for a two-tank dive – we HIGHLY recommend going further afield and exploring el bajo, espiritu santo, los islotes, Cabo Pulmo. You can also brush up your underwater photography skills with a Backscatter workshop, take a kayaking tour along the coastline, and so much more. Head to see creatures at 4pm for complementary antigen testing and to be kitted out with a wetsuit and snorkelling gear.
Spend the evening at leisure. We can arrange for a sunset sail with cocktails, or, for certified divers, embark on our Margarita Madness night dive, celebrating in style with a margarita party on the way home.
Day 1 – Transfer to Magdalena Bay
Have a leisurely lie-in, meeting at SeeCreatures for the 10am departure to Magdalena Bay. The scenic drive takes five hours. Upon arrival you will board the Mango Wind, unpack, relax and get ready!
Days 2-5 – Chase the Bait Balls of Magdalena Bay
We’ll be out on the water all day chasing bait balls. Our brilliant local panga captains are former fisherman and know these waters like the back of their hands and work with all the local fishermen and pangas to keep track of where the bait balls are.
Our success depends wholly on the sardine and whether they are on the surface or down deep. Bait balls form when they are on the surface, and this doesn’t necessarily happen every day. But we’ll be out on the water and splashing to maximize your chances of getting one of those truly incredible encounters with striped marlin.
The waters off Magdalena Bay are loaded with life this time of year, and aside from marlin, you might also spot whales, dolphins, turtles, sharks and sea lions. There will also be the opportunity to visit a sea lion rookery and go ashore on the beautiful white sand dunes.
Day 6 – Wave Goodbye!
Spend one final morning on the water before toasting to your trip over a delicious lunch. In the afternoon we’ll head back to shore and transfer you back to Cabo.
