To say our day was spectacular is an understatement

Today was our first day in the Sea of Cortez. Although we were scheduled to visit la Isla de Guadalupe, when that trip was cancelled, the entire Nautilus team worked so hard to open up this trip to the Sea of Cortez. We are so appreciative of all of the time, work, and generosity that went into this alternative trip.

We weren’t entirely sure what to expect in the Sea of Cortez, but so far today we’ve snorkeled with sperm whales and dived with sea lions, spotted turtles and octopus. The fish life here is almost out of a movie. There are clouds of fish everywhere. To say our day was spectacular is an understatement. Every dive site we saw today offered something new, different, and extraordinary. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the sperm whales were my favourite. You could hear them communicating with clicks. And the moment when I came face to face with a sperm whale was a once in a lifetime moment. It was perfect synergy. On top of all of that, the crew of the Nautilus Explorer is fantastic. Amazing dive operations with meticulous attention to safety, friendly crew, and a welcoming and homey atmosphere on board. We couldn’t ask for anything more. This is already turning out to be a trip of a lifetime and we have 4 more days to come.
