UNESCO Isla Espiritu Santo: Ocean Safari with Mobula rays

Jacques Cousteau island’s first glamping camp

Explore the Sea of Cortez like never before with a multi-day ocean safari adventure and glamping experience, including orca-permitted pangas.

Jacques Cousteau Island (known locally as Cerralvo Island) lies in the heart of the Sea of Cortez, one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on Earth.

Its turquoise waters are home to playful sea lions and dolphins. With spring bringing orcas, whales, massive schools of mobula rays, and even whale sharks. Explore by 48-ft fast boat during daily ocean safaris, plus opportunities to kayak and snorkel.

Our glamping camp is located wherever will get us closest to the animal action of this pristine island and follows a zero-impact policy. Each bespoke tent comes with a private en-suite and a comfortable bed with fine linens. For added comfort, the pop-up camp is supported by a fully equipped mothership.

For those with extra time in Baja, book back-to-back trips on different islands for the ultimate island-hopping experience. Join us for a sailing adventure or more day trips, including diving or snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo National Park.

Itinerary: How the ocean safari + glamping experience works

Day 1 – Arrival in Baja California Sur

Fly into either Los Cabos (SJD) or La Paz (LAP). Guests arriving in Los Cabos will enjoy a complimentary transfer from SeeCreatures Cabo to La Paz for hotel check-in.

In the evening, meet your fellow adventurers over a welcome dinner and naturalist briefing, where we’ll share the plan for the days ahead and the remarkable marine life that awaits in the Sea of Cortez.

Day 2 – First Ocean Safari & Glamping on Cerralvo Island

Take an early breakfast at the hotel, ready for a day of adventure. Before heading out on our 48-ft fast boat for your first naturalist-guided ocean safari, with snorkelling opportunities throughout the day.

Keep watch for orcas, great whales, sea lions, dolphins, schooling mobula rays, and even whale sharks.

In the late afternoon, arrive at our glamping camp on Cerralvo Island. Enjoy some welcome champagne and settle into your private en-suite tent before enjoying cocktail hour, dinner, and spectacular Mexican night skies.

Day 3 – Ocean Safari & Island Exploration

Spend another exciting day on the water before returning to camp in the afternoon.

Your island base is also perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or snorkelling.

Day 4 – Final Safari & Return to La Paz

Enjoy a final ocean safari day before returning to La Paz in the late afternoon for your hotel stay.

Free time over dinner, a chance to explore downtown La Paz, known for its vibrant street art, ocean-themed sculptures, and scenic malecón (boardwalk) overlooking the Sea of Cortez.

Day 5 – Departure or Continue the Adventure

After breakfast and checkout, guests returning to Los Cabos depart by 8:00 a.m. to connect with outgoing flights.

If you have more time in Baja, we invite you to continue the journey. In early April, you could join our signature adventure; luxury fly-in glamping experience at San Ignacio Lagoon for one of the most extraordinary gray whale encounters on the planet.

  • Limited showers, but unlimited on our mothership
  • Tents especially designed for hot weather, 16-ft diameter, and very comfortable

Beach camping can be hot in the Sea of Cortez. With over five decades of experience in Baja, our tents are specially designed for the heat. Flow through ventilation, double reflecting “fly” shade, and battery-powered swamp coolers reduce the inside temperature by 15-20°F.
