The Start of our Cold-Water Diving Season

Location: Steveston Harbour, Vancouver, British Columbia

Comments: Captain Mike back at the helm. I am getting over pneumonia and not able to dive for a while but I am ready, keen, and chafing at the bit to get back out to sea. Our British Columbia and Alaska scuba diving adventures are among my  favourite trips of the year and I am anxious to get going. We were up very late last night and all the staff made one heckuva an effort to wrap this year’s intensive and extensive refit and overhaul in time to board our guests at noon. Despite the carpet and lino installer calling in with the flu, and the stubborn refusal of the overhauled boiler to fire up properly (despite the g*dlike skills of Rick, Jeff and the crew), we managed to be pierside – happy, cheerful and smiling – and loading guests “basically” on time. I was especially proud of my daughter Emily who took time off from her Grade 2 class this morning to come down to the boat, put on yellow rubber gloves, and help out with wiping, vacuuming and cleaning and whatever else needed doing. Thank you all for a stupendous effort. The Nautilus Explorer looks shiny and awesome.
