Pre-Departures for Punta Tosca, Socorro this afternoon. Weather: Snshine w/ partial cloud 3/10. Wind light at sunrise increasing to 5-8 knots in lee of Cabo Pearce. Seas: 1-2′ at anchorage. Diving : Dive 1 was good with most divers experiencing both dolphins and mantas during the dive and for some simultaneously. The but decreased with an increase in current. Near the end of the first dive the current was moderate from the north of the lava finger. Dive 2- The DM’s and I viewed the current stream running of the point and the patches of green water to north and out from the rip, and determined a dive along the reef, wall and out to the edge of the current break would be a good plan. Our divers were really pleased with the dive, one group spotting a large hammerhead coming out of the loom towards them near the point, and others spotting a manta inside the shelter of the point. Most were very impressed with the dramatic 100′ wall and they said it was “like diving at grand canyon”. One guest has been here 4 times previously but not dove the wall before. Another guest was really pleased with the reef and the numerous yellow pufferfish, which he said was a nice contrast to the giant black mantas. Yesterday after noon we conducted two dives that were both really good with moderate current and visibility. Mantas were present during both dives and some amazing pictures were shared with me afterwords. At sunset we shifted anchor closer in to the point for a lee from the afternoon wind so we could conduct our silkie snorkel and then taco night under the stars. All went really well, numerous silkies and excited guests for the snorkel, and the grand finale was Chef’s tacos.
