Hello everybody,

NGL s cruising up the Cerralvo channel on our way to a La Reinita for our dive. This morning the guests had a blast with thousands of mobulas in the Bahia de Los Muertos. They spent 2 hours swimming, the visibility was better than yesterday and the mobulas were pretty static so everybody could enjoy the school. After they came back onboard for breakfast, we spotted a fin whale heading south. As we got closer, we realized it was a mother and a calf! A first time for me to see a calf fin whale in these waters. they were swimming side by side very close.

Guests boarded the Rhib and had 1 hour of respectful and enjoyable whale watching. For many, it was the first time seeing a fin whale, the second largest whale in the ocean!

We left the little family on their journey and as we headed back to Punta arenas we bumped into a humpback whale very close to the shore. A young whale, a bit shy but one that showed its fluke a few times and disappeared.

Yesterday after lunch we saw a blue whale! It was going south, heading towards Los Barriles. It was swimming very close to the surface, breathing every 8 minutes but not diving down so we could see that very specific turquoise blue spot in the water from which these whales have got their name. Their body is actually grey-marbled, but when in the water they turn turquoise blue. We followed that whale for more than 3 hours, as she cruised undisturbed by our presence.

While tailing the blue whale, a family of humpbacks breached just 300 yards from the gallant lady! mummy, baby, and escort in an amazing display of their aerial skills. As beautiful as it was, and as tough as the decision was, we did not let them distract us from the exceptional encounter with a majestic blue whale.
