Captain’s Noon Reports – Belle Amie – 2023-10-19

Today NEX was offshore Magdalena Bay. Weather was ok, swell from the south started to roll in, a light NW wind most of the day, picked up to about 12kts later in the afternoon with 3-5′ from the NW. Sky was mostly clear today.

Today was day 3 in the pangas for the guests, chasing bait balls. It’s been a great trip really. They’ve seen a big Mola Mola in the water, several bait balls including a few static bait balls and watched them get decimated by Dorados and sealions. Today they were watching a bait ball and saw a Brydes whale come through feeding on the bait ball!

The only thing they haven’t been seeing much of is marlin. For some reason not a lot of marlin around despite the other action. A few quick sightings by some people but most haven’t. Tomorrow will be our last day in the pangas so hopefully we get lucky with the marlin then. Weather for tomorrow still looks ok. For Saturday we shall see, although I’m hopeful the conditions will be ok to get a few dives in for our last day as scheduled.
