Captain’s Noon Reports – Under Sea – 2024-07-24

Anchored in Isla Coronado, 26.08.325N – 111.15.760W, guessing we are in 150Ft (not sure about it).

We arrived here around 0545 this morning, we had to go almost all the way around to find a shelter for anchoring and diving as the east side was rough, windy was really blowing and waves were 6ft. But after few hours the weather improved and now we are in the east side of the island diving la lobera for the sea lions, wind stopped and seas are flat.

Air temperature is 84F, water today is 75F, visibility is 25ft, moderate current running to the north.

First dive in the west side of the island was actually good, divers found tons of nudibranchs and some sea slugs, and other fish. Second dive was good too with the sea lions, then some were able to see barracudas they saw by the dozens then a small squadron of móbulas rays, they want to go back to that same site for the third dive.

When I was bringing the last group back to the boat a huge and I mean a huge pod of dolphin came around the UNDERSEA I went around the boat keeping the dolphins playing with my bow waves, all the other guests were on the boat cheering for the dolphins.

Yesterday afternoon and just before the third dive the spotter plane called us on the radio to tell us about some whales they saw just north of Las Animas where we were, we took off after the whales got close and used the inflatable to take the guests for a closer look. They spent few hours interacting with the whales and also a pod of bottlenose dolphins joined in and it was a great way to finish our day. Crossing to Isla Coronado was just fine until we turn around Carmen island when weather became rough until we went around Coronado looking for shelter.
