Captainโ€™s Noon Reports โ€“ Belle Amie โ€“ 2024-08-02

Belle Amie today is underway from SPM to La Paz. Weather is beautiful today, light breeze with 1 ft swell, clear sky, air temp 32C.

We had a great day at SPM yesterday to finish the trip yesterday, some great sea lion dives with good viz, 15-20m, and water temp 27C at the surface, a few degrees cooler at depth.

Today the objective was safari style looking for big animals. This morning before breakfast we did find a pod of sperm whales, including a mom and calf very close alongside the Belle. The guests went out in the inflatables and had a good couple hour of whale watching, including some classic tail shots and spy-hopping by the spermies.

There were probably 20-30 whales spread out over a couple miles in front of Bahia Concepcion, but hard to say exactly. After that, we came across a big pod of common dolphins and again later another big pod of bottlenose dolphins.
