Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2025-04-02

NEX at anchor at Fondeadero on 55 ft of water, 2 shots out. weather conditions: Windy today NW 15-20 kts with gusts of 25 kts, seas 2-3 ft WNW. Overcast sky. Air temp is 22C. We arrived last night to San Benedicto, Valentina, and Rocio del Mar were here already.

This morning has been very windy. Winds come from NW but we feel it mostly from SW of the island as well as the seas. We have done 2 dives this morning.

First dive we jumped from the back deck to El Fondeadero. We have some issues with some guests as they got panic attack and didnt wanted to dive so they return to the boat. We took a while to take all divers to dive as they were needing more weights.

After that things were smooth underwater, dive was ok for a check dive. They saw one manta, one green turtle, some sharks, reef whitetips, silkies. Water temp was 23C and good viz 20 mts, Current was strong at surface to the West but deeper it was mild.

Second dive was on Lava Flow, things were smoother, boarded guests in the skiff and take them to lava flow. It was a really nice dive as it was very little current to the west, great viz 20 mts despite there are ashes in the surface and wind, and very good action.

2 groups saw a school of 30ish hammerheads, 4 Mantas, one of them a big black manta and a tiger shark. Also, one of the groups could see 3 baby hammerheads. We will do two more dives here. We will stay to do the Canyon tomorrow.
