Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2026-01-27

NEX at anchor in Punta Tosca, Socorro Island, good weather conditions today, sunny day, air temperature 24C, NE 8-12 kts winds, 1-2ft waves. Water condition, water temp. around 27C, visibility 18 mts.

Yesterday, just when they thought the day was over, on the last dive, a school of 7 hammerhead sharks and a whale shark appeared. Those who hadn’t gone on the last dive because they preferred to rest couldn’t believe it. Guest Monte thinks it’s the same whale shark from the Boiler.

Then we moved to Punta Tosca and anchored. The night was calm.

This morning, the first two dives were uneventful.

One group saw a school of seven hammerhead sharks, although a fin whale was seen passing off the starboard side. There were also about three chevron manta rays on the dives.

Guest John was lucky enough to see one swim from the depths to leap out of the water. This afternoon we have one more dive planned, and then we’ll go to the Navy Base for the routine inspection.

After we finish there, we’ll go to Roca Partida.
