Well this trip has flown by. Our normal trips are 8 days long with 6 days diving, this trip is one of our longer ones with 10 days of diving in the islands. What an incredible trip so far. We have been out to Roca Partida twice for two days each time. Roca Partida is always special but this year during the humpback season it has been … looking for a word that gives it justice, magical, exceptional, a once in a lifetime experience. We started being happy with snorkelling with the Mom and her calf, who we call Bufanda and Two Socks. It has been amazing to see the calf grown in size from late January to now. This trip the mom and calf started coming over to the island while we were diving and just lying there checking us out. North Point, Roca Partida 10 metres, 4 guests and myself slowly drifting down the wall when what do we see but the white pecs of the calf ahead then as we grew closer we saw the mom lying there motionless in the water, nursing the calf. The calf would rise to the surface get air come back down and resume nursing. We watched them for a long time and then ever so slowly the mom and calf rose in unison to the surface for air. By the last day at Roca Partida the Mom and calf and acquired an escort and we were now seeing three whales together both snorkelling and underwater. With all of this going on it would be easy to miss all the usual stuff that is Roca Partida. It was superb as usual. Sitting at San Benedicto and getting ready to move out to the Boiler divesite in the Morning. Hopefully for one more round of manta encounters.
Get out and dive but always Dive Safe!
