White sharks Sept 2 (1)
Shark breeding can be quite a vicious process. . The females don’t want to be put under the mating pressure because they literally get ripped apart by the male’s teeth. Sharks don’t have hands, all they have are claspers which latch around the tail and then they bite onto the gill area of the female. The females have skin ten-times thicker than males for that exact purpose. At Guadalupe Island you will often see either see all males or all females. The theory is, this segregation is due to the damage to the female and the effort involved in the reproduction process.
