For me, another birthday usually means just another day on the water. I’ve had birthdays at anchor and birthdays underway, birthdays at the pier and birthdays just floating around. But today, when I hit 25 and said adios to my first quarter of a century, I knew that this birthday would truly be once-in-a-lifetime. How many of my friends or family would ever see this incredible little rock, seemingly in the middle of nowhere? How many people are lucky enough to celebrate with giant mantas, pods of dolphins, and even a little whale shark? After another fantastic day at Roca, I blew my candles out over a piece of Chef Enrique’S famous flan. I can’ tell you what I wished for, but I can tell you that a couple of hammerhead sharks at Socorro certainly wouldn’t hurt.
