Captain’s Noon Report – Explorer – 2018-12-22

Location: San Benedicto Isla .22′ off the Rock pillars, anchored in 109′
Weather: Sunny with partial clouds and with 3- 5 knots N at noo. Seas: 2-4′ long ocean swells.

The first dive this morning was excellent for all our divers. Visibility was moderate some areas 15M (40-45′) and blue 20-25 (60-75′ ) Water temp was reported 26C There was minimal current during the first dive and our guests encountered up to 5 very interactive Mantas circling the Boiler.. Even from my rounds of the vessel I could spot 2 mantas swimming at the surface near the ship, and post dive one guest got some great drone photos of the boiler, with the dark shapes of mantas around it. Had a laugh with one guest who remarked, “maybe the mantas know its diver season and come here to interact with us.” It sure seems like that on days like today. For our second dive we had another very exciting dive, despite a reduction in visibility to 10M (25-30′) near the reef due to the boiler – boiling, Tide against swell. The mantas are still present and very interactive playing with the divers and coming within feet of them. Water temp remains 26C, and all divers are presently enjoying lunch and some down time before dive #3. Yesterday afternoon we completed our third and fourth dives at Roca Partida, and both were excellent. Consistent Manta interaction, great visibility, and all the other life teeming in the “aquarium” made a memorable impression on all the divers.
