Captain’s Noon Report – Under Sea – 2020-03-12

Location: Socorro Island
Weather: Winds NNW 10 knots, Swell NE 1-3 ft, Visibility 45-60 ft, Water Temperature 72 F
Status: Cabo Pearce

Yesterday, we finished up at Punta Tosca. We had whales on our cruise over to the Navy base and after going to Cabo Pearce. The silky snorkel was nice and guests enjoyed the change of pace. We had a nice night on anchor. Today, we saw some hammerheads along with one friendly manta. During the second dive, one group was able to view a school of hammerheads twice while the other groups saw more mantas. Throughout the dive, there were clicking sounds from a large pod of false killer whales just off the dive site. I was lucky enough to be in the dinghy. The cetaceans looked like big black torpedoes under the dinghy and they were racing fast and creating big splashes coming up for breaths. The wind has died down and it is just a gorgeous day here. The air temperature is getting warmer and that feeling of the tropical breeze hitting my face tells me its springtime.
