Captain’s Noon Report – Belle Amie – 2020-07-20

Location: Bahia Santa Maria
Weather: Cloudy, Wind light W, Swell 3′ NW, Visibility low

We finished the day yesterday with a dive off the point of Punta Tosca. We found the remnants of the wreck of the Steamship Independence which sunk there in 1853. Two big boilers and scattered debris. The wreck area was full of life, with lots of fish including really big groupers. Definitely a dive site for future visits! After that dive, we picked up the anchor and moved up to the Santa Maria bay and anchored for the night. This morning we did one dive on the outside of Punta San Lazaro. After this dive, we’re heading offshore to poke around Thetis Bank for a couple of hours. We will look for dolphins, whales, and anything else that might be around.
