The water is getting warmer in the Revillagigedo Archipelago and the whale sharks are showing up again. Today at Roca Partida, we were fortunate enough to be able to swim with one of those gentle giants. A five meter long whale shark was cruising around the island many times and even made an appearance by the Belle Amie. We could observe it from the sundeck as it was cruising along the surface enjoying the warm water. On the last dive we even saw it on our safety stop. It was circling the skiff with some snorkelers around it who had already taken off their tanks. A great way to end a fantastic day of diving.
With our first day of diving at San Benedicto, things were off to a great start. Catching a few manta rays at The Canyon then six or eight at The Boiler. This was a really special experience for everyone with the giant manta rays circling around us, playing with each other and giving everyone up-close encounters. Overnight we made the crossing to Roca Partida where we spent two days diving with whitetip reef sharks, tons of schooling fish, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks hanging deep, random hammerhead sharks out in the blue and a couple of whale sharks gracing us over both days. And I can’t forget about the huge yellowfin tuna doing drive-bys on almost every dive. With a boatload of seasoned divers, it really says a lot that everyone has been gushing about how great these dives have been!
