Captain’s Noon Reports – Belle Amie – 2022-04-16

Location: The Canyon

Weather: Clouded Skies, N Wind (15kts), Swell (1-3ft)

We anchored up in a shallow spot for the check-out dive and passed a nice calm night at anchor. Conditions this morning have been good so far. A gentle 3′ sea coming into the bay with a bit of wind, but nothing problematic. We did our check-out dive from the stern and it went very well. Action on the checkout was pretty great. A couple of mantas were sighted as well as some white tips and Galapagos. At the tail end of the dive, a group of dolphins came and parked in the area for about 20 minutes. I think almost every diver got a close encounter. Our second dive was at the canyon itself. There was some good silvertip action at the cleaning station and some of the divers got very good interactions with a group of around 10 hammerheads. Overall it has been a perfect first day so far.

Water temperature: 74°F

Visibility: 50-70ft
