Captain’s Noon Reports – Undersea – 2023-05-10

NUS anchored at 19 17.4N-110 48.3W, at 55 ft depth, in the Canyon, San Benedicto Island, air temperature 74F, sky clear sunny but windy, the ashes of the volcano fly all over the island.

This morning we did two dives. The first dive was in the Boiler with favorable conditions for a beautiful day. The wind of 8-10 knots from the north and swell of 2/4 ft. But after half a dive the devil appeared and changed all conditions. Strong wind of more than 20 knots and waves of 7 ft without intervals.

In the Boiler, we saw 1 tiger shark, 7 mantas, and a few hammerheads, with visibility 100 ft, water temp 74F, and no current. Second Canyon dive visibility is not very good, 20ft, and the water temp 71F. We saw Galapagos, silvertips,1 blacktip,1 tiger shark, and 2 mantas. Planning two more dives in the afternoon.

Yesterday in the last dive at Roca Partida we saw a school of silkies close to the rock.
