Captain’s Noon Reports – Gallant Lady – 2023-05-23

Today the Gallant Lady was once again around Cerralvo. Beautiful day with light easterly winds and 1′ seas. Mostly clear skies.

Started the day at Saltito hoping for mobulas but didn’t find any. We did see a pod of common dolphins though. Around breakfast time we were heading towards Bay of la Paz and heard about some sperm whales south of Cerralvo, so we headed there instead. Arrived around 1400hrs and spent the rest of the day with a large pod of sperm whales, hard to say how many, but at least 30 I’d guess. We are still drifting amongst them and they are very calm, spending lots of time at the surface. Some other pangas were around earlier but all left a couple of hours ago.

Now we will head towards the Bay of la Paz and search the southern part starting in the morning and heading north in the afternoon towards San Francisco.
