Captain’s Noon Reports – Gallant Lady – 2023-05-28

Gallant Lady is searching around Cerralvo island today. Wind right now is northerly 10 kts. Seas 1-2′, sky is mostly clear. Air temp 27C.

We started the day around Punta arenas and found a big school of mobulas there close to the lighthouse, early on arrival from our overnight transit. After watching them jumping from the surface and taking photos for an hour we geared up and went out in the rhib to get in the water with them. Visibility wasn’t great but there were a lot of mobulas and everyone got some good snorkelling and free-diving time with them. After a couple hours all came back for breakfast and since then we’ve been searching with the plane all around Cerralvo island area, south in Bahia de los Muertos, in the channel and outside the island. So far not a lot of activity. We’ll check around la Reina this afternoon then head back towards Punta arenas to anchor and spend the night so we can start with mobulas there tomorrow morning.
