Captain’s Noon Reports – Gallant Lady – 2023-05-30

NGL is currently anchored at Las Animas. Wind south 5-10kts, 1-2′ seas, clear skies. Air temp 27C.

Started this morning in San Francisco and searched the San Jose channel, then circled around the north end of Santa Cruz island and came out to Las Animas. No orcas or whales were spotted but we started with a fun megapod of common dolphins in the channel and ended with a huge pod of spinner dolphins just next to Las Animas! First time I’ve ever seen spinners out here, it was a pod close to 1000 I’d say and they put on a great show with their jumping and corkscrew spinning following the boat for around half an hour.

Now getting ready to dive with the pinnipeds of Las Animas, and there are loads of them here right now, everywhere, all around the rock. Planning two dives here this afternoon then heading south again for more mobulas in the Cerralvo channel tomorrow.
