Captain’s Noon Reports – Gallant Lady – 2023-06-01

NGL is around Cerralvo today, currently up on the new side looking for the Orcas. The wind is southerly 5 kts with 1-2′ seas. Sunny and air temp 27C.

Last night we turned on the lights after anchoring at Punta Arenas and by around 2030 a nice little school of mobulas came by. Several people got in the water and one guest said it was one of the coolest experiences he’s ever had.

This morning we started off in the same place and weirdly, no schools of mobulas at all around. Not just for us but for anyone, all the pangas were out looking for mobulas and just nothing. Really really quiet around south Cerralvo. Of course, the working theory is the Orcas scared everything off, but who knows? After breakfast we came up to the north end and had a look around La Reina and found a huge pod of bottlenose, watched them jumping in our wake for about 20 minutes then sent the RHIB over for some sea lion snorkeling at La Reina.

Now we are just getting started to head back to the south, we’ll search the east side of Cerralvo island and back down to the Punta arenas area. The guests have requested another mobula night snorkel tonight so we’ll set up the lights again when we get anchored. They requested another taco night as well so we’re going to do that tonight. Tomorrow the last day we’ll be at Pulmo for a couple of dives and look for some animals there in the afternoon.
