NGL is sailing at the southern point of the Bay of Los Barriles. This morning we looked for mobulas at Bahia de los Suenos, but the guests were exhausted from the previous night’s dive and were not very eager to search. So, we switched to a pod of bottlenose dolphins that made some crazy acrobatics behind the NGL, and guests could take videos and photos from the rhib.
Then I heard a report on the radio that something was going on by the lighthouse of La Ventana. Upon verification, it happened to be 15 false killer whales! We headed straight towards them and we have been following them for the last 6hrs. Guests went in the water several times with them, taking great videos and photos. Just before guests came back onboard for lunch, the false killer whales jumped in the wake of the NGL, very acrobatic too. We are now waiting for the plane to search for more animals in this area.
Yesterday afternoon we spent some more time with the sperm whales and had some great interactions above and underwater. Then we headed straight for Punta Arena to do a night dive in front of the abandoned hotel. Guests loved the dive. Anna did her first-night dive and was astonished by the bioluminescence. Guest Raul and Jose kept telling me that it was the best night dive they had ever done.
DM Esteban was very happy with the dive, saying a lot of life on the reef: hunting moray eels, sleeping parrot fish and pufferfish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and loads of bioluminescence.
