Captainโ€™s Noon Reports โ€“ Belle Amie โ€“ 2023-09-08

Was busy with the pilot whales. Transit day today for NBA. Departed 1630 yesterday from Bahia de LA after a great day of whaleshark action and had a nice overnight run south, some pitching from the swell rolling up from that big storm down south but not much wind.

Today was about the search for animals as we cruised southward and just passing Mulege, we encountered a big pod of pilot whales.

After spotting them the first time we headed towards them and as we pulled up alongside, drifting while we prepared the inflatables, they came right up alongside the Belle, checking us out curiously. We ended up spending close to 3 hours with what turned out to be multiple pods numbering probably about a hundred in total.

Great in-water interaction with them, multiple drops, including one right off the stern of the Belle as we drifted with engines off and they came over to check us out. Great way to end a great trip.
