Captain’s Noon Reports – Belle Amie – 2023-09-15

Belle Amie on our way back to La Paz today from Bahia de Los Angeles. Current weather is 5 kts wind with 1-2′ seas, clear skies, air temp 35C.

This morning at 0800 we encountered a pod of sperm whales and enjoyed a couple hours of whale watching with them, then 2 hours later we came across a big pod of pilot whales with the help of our spotter plane, Scout. Pilot whales are actually a large member of the dolphin family and are very curious and like to approach snorkelers in the water.

As soon as I stopped the Belle Amie near the pod, they all came directly over to our stern and everyone had a great in-water interaction with them.
