Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2023-10-26

NEX is now anchored at the south end of Isla Margarita with NBA. Weather today wasn’t too bad most of the day, around 10kts from the west that increased to 15-18kts in the afternoon. Last night we anchored in front of PuertoMagdalena and this morning only 3 pangas went out. Around 7 of the Russian group didn’t want to go.

Today was pretty slow, a few fast-moving bait balls later in the day with a few marlins spotted but very brief, quick encounters and just a couple times.
Yesterday the pangas came across 5 humpback whales traveling together and everyone had a great experience whale watching for the afternoon.

Tonight we’ll stay anchored at south end of Isla Margarita and pangas will pick guests up here in the morning. 2 pangas at 0800 for half the group. The other half, the Russians, will do a morning dive and then head out with the pangas around 0930 after the dive. Plan is to search south tomorrow where the plane saw all the action today. We had a great show just now with a humpy breaching over and over and we all watched from the anchorage.
