Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2024-02-23

Good afternoon, everyone, NEX anchored at Roca Perdita, 240ft Depth with 4 Shackles from the Stbd Anchor paid out.  Current WX is Clear Skies, Calm Seas, 1.8m Northerly Swell, Good Vis Air Temp 24C.

We finished our day yesterday much in the same vein as the morning. Dives continued to be excellent, from the feedback we received onboard.  Late evening we recovered our anchor and proceeded here arriving around 0600.

First dive was at 0700. So far we have completed 2 dives with another about to start.  Both AM dives have been really good. Guests reported White Tips (“too many to count” says one) Silver Tips and Galapagos sharks.  Large Tuna, more than 6ft in length and large shoals of fish present on the eastern side.

During the second dive they noticed that the silver tips were starting to get hungry, and tried to eat some of the Reef Fish present.  Whales passed by in the distance, unfortunately they were not noticed by the guests in the water.  Dive conditions are: SW temp 25C, Vis on eastern edge 15-20m while on the westside 10m.

Aspiration for the rest of the day is to conduct the remaining 2 dives, Shark 101 presentation given by our resident expert, dinner, then recover the anchor and proceed to San Benedicto for tomorrow AM.
