UNIQUE NEW COMBO: Orcas, whales sharks, and schools of mobula rays!

This is a FANTASTIC combination. Socorro is always awesome with friendly giant mantas, dolphins, and 11 species of sharks and May, June and early July is our favourite time of the year to visit the islas. We get the most orca sightings and interactions  in July and August. Mobulas are resident year round in the Sea of Cortez but aggregate in huge numbers from April through July. It’s a pretty narrow overlap, but what an opportunity to combine the peak season for each of these iconic animals into awesome adventure. Spotter airplane supported of course.

Mexico sardine run: The liveaboard difference

Incredibly exciting diving with the liveaboard difference! Imagine predators of all species from giant bryde whales to speedy blue marlin to sharks and sea birds swarming around tightly packed schools of sardine with you right in the midst of it. Spotter airplane supported to get right onto the bait balls.

This destination on the pacific side of Baja is becoming legendary. It’s always been done using shore-based pangas and a long run out to the bait balls every morning. We made that better over the last 3 years by anchoring at the entrance to Magdalena Bay with much shorter run time using local highly experienced panga captains, ex-fishermen who know the area like the back of their hand. NEW for 2024: We will be start engines before sunrise, lifting anchor, and head out to be with the bait balls as early as possible. That’s the liveaboard difference. By the time the shore-based pangas arrive, we might have already been in the water for 4 hours, having the action all to ourselves.

Our guests can enjoy a nice shower and brunch in air-conditioned comfort while the shore-based pangas fight it out. Then, we will be back in the water for as long and late as our guests want, knowing that the local pangas have to head back to shore by mid-afternoon if not earlier. Short day or long day in the water? It’s totally up to you as your liveaboard will be on station close to the pangas all day long.

This is an experience not to be missed. Noting that scuba is not allowed around the bait balls. Snorkelling and free-diving only.
