Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2025-08-06

Isla del Coco, Costa Rica. Anchor in 90ft of water in Chatham Bay. Is a sunny day, lots of clouds on the horizon, air temperature is 84F, today water is 75F inside the thermoclines we found in the dives.

Above the thermoclines is 82F and at the safety stop it was 83F. visibility averages 60ft. no current today some surge instead.

Dives full of life, tons of fish, rays and sharks, I did Alcyone in first dive and there were at least a dozen of Galapagos sharks, Hammerhead sharks came and went they were getting clean they were close but not in big numbers but they were constant.

The south corner of Alcyone had a school of mullet snappers, circling in a funnel formation, horse eyed jacks also in big numbers, some of the guests found two octopus and that made their dive, a yellow fin tuna zipped and also an oceanic black tip came by, Alcyone had very good action.

Our second dive was in Submerged rock this site has an arch in 60Ft of water, the place is full of snappers, grunts, white tip, reef sharks, marble rays, moray eels and a lot more you can sit in that arch for hours watching the fish and their behaviors. Daniela said it was the best dive yet.

We finished late on the second dive we had to change the dive times as the morning sites today were far away and it took us like 30 to 40 minutes to get there.

Guests and crew doing well
