Captain’s Noon Reports – Explorer – 2025-08-17

Isla del Coco, Costa Rica. Anchor in wafer bay. Cloudy day rains on and off, flat seas with no winds inside the bay outside waves are 4ft and wind is doing some 12kts SW, air temperature is 84F, today ocean averages 80F, visibility averages 75ft, current constantly shifting directions along with a big surge, that make the dives interesting and sometimes guests struggle until they get their buoyancy right then things change for the better.

We are diving Dos Amigos Pequeña and Dirty Rock, both dives with loads of hammerheads, some Galapagos and tons of reef fish, there is an upwelling brining cooler and murky water to the dive sites, all fish keep moving in a single rhythm, following the surge or current.

I just came back from the small Dos Amigos and current kept shifting and sometimes the surge came, but that does not affect the dives and the cleaning stations for the hammers and Galapagos were really going.

The cherry on top was the 28Ft whale shark in DIRTY ROCK that fish circled twice my group, is like seeing a school bus coming to you. We also had the huge school of horse eyed jacks, the cotton mouths were around, dive is beautiful, guests super happy to be here.
