Dr. Mauricio Hoyos writes in his article: “Cookiecutter sharks (Isistius brasiliensis) are known to attack a wide array of large animals including pelagic fishes, cetaceans, and pinnipeds. Here we add another top predator, the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), to the list of potential victims”.
At Guadalupe Island you can very often spot the mighty elephant seals with fresh bites made by the cookiecutter, but this is the very first report on a bite to the white shark, the ultimate predator at Isla Guadalupe. This guys are fearless, incredible creatures (the cookiecutters)!
