The Last Dive
I am not even dry yet from my last dive of the trip @ 2pm. This was the perfect dive to end the trip by far! Lucy and a male shark were constantly weaving around our cages, taking small nips at the bait for a few minutes. All of the sudden, the male shark appeared just outside of my cage and swung around to quickly devour the bait in two gulps. Just as he finished the second bite, the white shark turned directly towards me and literally for a few seconds I thought he was going to stick his head into the cage. I quickly backed up, luckily with the camera still rolling and got some AMAZING close-up footage that you have to see to believe! This was the trip of a lifetime and when people ask me how it was, I will only sum it up into one phrase: life changing. When I first signed up for this trip, I was trying to think of a unique way to celebrate my 30th birthday. What better gift to myself than diving with great white sharks in the middle of the ocean? Crazy? Maybe. Was it worth it? Absolutely!

Had an absolute blast on the Nautilus Explorer! Every single day we saw multiple great white sharks on almost all of our dives. The crew and dive masters were amazing. The sharks were taking bites out of the bait multiple times. The highlight for sure was when we were able to see the sharks bite the bait and see the force of the jaws. This was a trip of a lifetime and I am so happy that was able to have this experience.

Swimming with Great White Sharks has been something that I have dreamed about since I was a child. Like most people I grew up in the “Post-Jaws Era” and I had a number a misconceptions about these powerful and graceful animals. My journey on the Nautilus Explorer was a birthday gift to myself (don’t ask), and it was perhaps some of the best money that I ever spent. The crew was friendly and attentive, the ship beautiful, and the experience of seeing the Great Whites themselves simply defies description. It is, to borrow a cliché, something you simply have to experience for yourself. The grace, the beauty, the power, and the intelligence of these animals is simply indescribable. Unless you do it, you won’t believe it!
Thanks to the ship and crew for a fantastic week!
