I went down on the last dive of the day, Monte had his camera behind me and the great white shark passed the cage with my camera 2 inches from its mouth! You could see my monitor on my video camera in its mouth, screen saver for sure! Third year in a row on the Nautilus Explorer, just when you didn’t think it could get any better it does! Best crew and boat in the world in my book. A must do! Can’t wait till next year!

My first trip to Guadalupe Island surpassed all expectations. The diving, ocean, food, drinks, sights, sun, hot tub, photos, videos, speeches, deserts, crew, guests, and sharks were all absolutely amazing.

Today was a fantastic day. I was working on the back deck, guiding up the cages when I noticed that grin after grin was coming up from the depths spread wide across the guests faces. These grins were generally accompanied by exclamations of “did you see that?!” or “man oh man that was amazing!”. I decided to suit up and check out what all the kerfuffle was about. I lowered myself down the ladder and joined two of the guests in the cage, just as I touched down on the metal bottom I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. Hundreds of mackerel surrounded us and out of the deep blue, clear depths cruised a massive great white shark. From above, the only way I could discern him from the darker water below was a small white scar on the tip of his nose. This earned him the unofficial nickname of Rudolf‚ on the boat. Rudolf‚ was very energetic in contrast to Lucy, a huge female with a crooked tail. Rudolf was amazing, he could turn on a dime. A few times he suddenly turned quickly so that he swam vertically very close to the cage. He flashed his pearly white, deadly sharp teeth at the guests in the cage who had a fantastic view of his massive physic. Another smaller shark (when I say smaller I mean the size of a large horse) cruised below Rudolf‚ evidently quite a bit more shy. I came up from my dive refreshed and ready to get back to work. I can‚t believe I can call the isla de Guadalupe and the Nautilus Explorer my office! I must have one of the best jobs in the world.
