Location: Puerto Los Cabos, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur
Comments: Interesting trip starting later today. Typically we concentrate on diving Socorro Island (Revillagigedo Islands) at this time of year. All our favourites are out there, including giant manta rays, humpback whales, sharks and dolphins.
However, our good friends from the Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Centre (led by the ever-intrepid Andy Lamb) requested a repeat of the Sea of Cortez spring expedition of 2 years ago. So heck, why not! While the visibility and water temperatures in the Sea of Cortez are lower right now than in peak season, conditions are still a heck of a lot better than what we are used to in British Columbia at this time of year.
We are currently anchored off Puerto Los Cabos, San Jose del Cabo, and it is fascinating to see the rapid progress being made building the new marina. It will be bigger than Cabo San Lucas once it’s finished and is being created by literally digging out a big hole behind the beach. The enormous drainage pumps were recently shut off and the basin is now slowly filling with water. It’s all very impressive and exciting!!
Weather: Clear skies, light and variable winds, calm seas and 80°F air temperature.
Water: Water visibility and temperature unknown.
