Well here we are the start of the Socorro Island diving season. Socorro never escapes to get my pulse going, as I come on watch this morning in the predawn light I see the dark shadow of San Benedicto Island rising from the sea against the coming day. We also start to see the first indications of the island ahead with various birds making there presence know, in a short while I expect to be greeted by our dolphin friends as we near the island. Our guests are excited for the start of their dive day to begin, final gear checks are being completed, breakfast and briefings are behind us and now is the anticipation. Check in later and I will let you know how our first days diving has gone.

What a great way to start the season here in the Islas de Revillagigedo, composed of San Benedicto, Socorro Island, Roca Partida and Clarion. Today the conditions at the canyon (san benedicto) were first class in the morning as we arrived. Our Dolphin friends greeting us and sticking around for the dive. I managed a good excuse to get in the water, with one of the guest dropping a weight pocket on entering the water first thing (I didn’t find it but someone else did)and what should I see right off the bat but a wonderful, huge giant Manta gliding around the gathered divers below. Of course, I thought that was the main show but as I talked with the diver returning after their dive, they had whitetip sharks, silkie sharks, galapagos and hammerheads, along with dolphins and some even took time to look at the bottom and were rewarded with a charming octopus for entertainment. Tonight we will make the overnight run to Roca Partida for some great diving over the next two days. Stay tuned.
