This week aboard the Nautilus Explorer we have the pleasure of hosting a group organized by Manta Trust. Joining with these citizen scientists is famed scientist Dr. Robert Rubin. For more than 25 years, Dr Rubin has focused his research on better understanding the Giant Pelagic Mantas of the Socorro Islands and surrounding Mexican waters. His knowledge of their evolution, behavior, and reproduction is invaluable. This research helps organizations like Manta Trust better identify the manta population of the area and campaign for better protection. It has been truly special to hear him lecture during our daily dive talks and evening presentations. It has made our interactions with these mantas even more meaningful on this special trip aboard the Nautilus Explorer.
