Dive Report, Nautilus Explorer

My second trip of this season, and The Canyon showed me why I was really exited to come back here… More than 70 hammerheads, more than 30 Galapagos, maybe like 30 silvertips… And three tiger sharks … All of this in one dive! Revillagigedo thank you to give that welcome!

The Canyon is an explosion of life! 3 consecutive dives with tiger shark encounters, 3 different tiger sharks! We had a huge school of over 80 hammerheads very peaceful and friendly swimming towards the divers again and again! And that was not all: mantas showed up too! Specially a black friendly manta came to welcome our guests to Revillagigedo!

I decided to bring the divers toward the outside bay, where the visibility was perfect and protected from the current. Guess who had decided to do the same? 3 Giant mantas! they turned around us and danced and bathed in our bubbles for 40 min… And then, 15 hammerhead sharks showed up at the safety stop and circled us for a minute.

On the first dive we had a pod of 12 Bottlenose Dolphins swimming around us for half the dive and on the later dive we had 1 Black and 2 Chevron Giant Mantas circling us. During the whole dive!! And after the dive each diver is persuaded that the mantas were specifically swimming towards them many more times than to the other divers. These magical creatures really have the power to make all divers feel special!!

Our first day was full of action, we ticked off most of the boxes with mantas, dolphins, and many species of sharks including schooling hammerheads and multiple tiger sharks. Today we dove Roca Partida and had some more amazing action; massive schools of jacks and different species of tuna including 100 kg+ tunas in schools accompanied by about 20-30 hammerhead sharks.

For the second part of the day we went to El Canyon and we saw EVERYTHING!! Numerous free swimming Hammeread sharks and even a school of at least 20 cruising together, the family of Silvertips is still all over the cleaning station and Galapagos sharks were mixing in with them, some were at least 3 meters long. There was even sightings of at least 2 different Tiger sharks. It was amazing!! The cherry on top were the 2 friendly chevron mantas joining us for our safety stop!
