My friends said, after this year, to try to have a relaxing holiday. I got a ticket to Mexico, I got another ticket to Cabo San Lucas, and I hastily took my place on board the Nautilus towards Socorro. I did not want to relax, I wanted to feel awe and I wanted to feel small.
With a lot of anticipation, I joined the group and the crew briefed us on the adventure ahead of us. It was easy to forget sometimes that we were truly in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Walking up to the top deck, looking into the dark nothingness and the starry sky, was the first reminder.
On our first day of diving, we swam amongst the giant manta, swooping calmly around us. It was only until the next day when Pascal (the supreme divemaster), gave his presentation about Manta, that I could understand that these creatures really were as curious as they looked. We were the foreign objects in this wild scene, this was their playground, not ours.
In the following days, we saw so much more, so many different species of sharks, octopuses, giant lobsters, and many more. What I love more is simply the feeling of being underwater, the topography, the dramatic underwater volcanic landscapes, and the serenity and immersive feeling you get.. until another diver, accidentally, smacks into you, but it´s forgivable!
As I write, the guests and crew are playing a game. The remarkable game is a murder mystery!
As I write, the guests and crew are playing a game. The game is a murder mystery! In this short time, we went from complete strangers to co-adventurers, to family. And as with any family, you can´t choose them, but you want to murder them (figuratively?). I have the feeling I will see some of these people again, except the unlucky ones.
Amongst us are the crew, who are patient, knowledgeable, and just fun to be around. Skilled divers, guided us so we can get the most out of each dive, gave presentations, and answered any stupid questions we have.
If you want an adventure like no other; want to experience nature in its fierce and majestic form, then you need to take a journey with Captain MantaRey and his crew Undersea.
