Off to a great start
Our trip started at Fondeadero and what a first dive it was! We were within handshaking distance from Mantas, Hammerheads, Galapagos, and Blacktip sharks. At El Canyon, we came across a school of Hammers, silver tips, big Galapagos and a couple of mid-size tiger sharks. Great beginning, and it is only the start.
El Boiler was even better. We saw lots of mantas, hammerheads, Galapagos, and Tiger sharks! A formation of six mantas that swam by us conjured up images of stealth planes in formation! It is an enlightening experience to swim with the mantas.
Tomorrow it is Roca Partida!
Diving at Roca Partida
Diving off Roca Partida is always pure magic! You will never miss out on seeing at close distance, big pelagic animals, and lots of fish swimming around the rock.
The dives on the first day were great. There were lots of white-tip sharks swimming in the north, big Galapagos, Silver tips, a couple of mantas, one black and one chevron, and big size yellowfin tunas. We were also surrounded by a school of cotton mouth jacks, a special and surreal feeling that we will never get tired of.
The dives on the second day were even more fantastic, an experience that we are unlikely to forget in our lifetimes. However, the conditions were different from the first day. There was a very strong current in the morning, which made it difficult for us to stay in the area where all the action was taking place.
The strong current of the morning had weakened by the time of our afternoon dives and we could stay on the northwest side of the rock. It was truly spectacular as we were soon surrounded by lots of sharks, Galapagos, White tips, Silver tips, and Silkies swimming around us. There were also lots of fish and a majestic big yellowfin tuna out hunting.
The current now was quite strong but we managed to stay there. Though a little tired at the end of the dive, we were all elated seeing the sea creatures that floated gracefully past us.
It seemed that the sea was keeping the best for the end as our last dive turned out to be the most wonderful of the lot. There were lots of yellowfin tuna crossing by the rock with around six or eight huge tunas leading the group. They were followed by a school of silky sharks, more than 40 of them. A few of them were very curious and stayed around the divers as if they were sizing us up. This gave us the chance to take some close-up pictures of them.
We will go back with wonderful memories of our dives.
