As the day began, we took to the sun deck to marvel at our surroundings. Guadalupe Island is a breathtaking island all on its own in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We could hear the cries of the baby seals on the island calling for their moms to return from the hunt. On the dive deck, you know things are getting real when you hear the call of “SHARK!” and turn to see the dorsal fin and tail of a great white shark.

It seemed like one of the sharks named Andy was using a new technique to know where the bait was at. He would come up to the surface next to the bait in such a distance so I would not pull the bait away. It looked like he would touch the wrangling line with his dorsal fin on purpose.

My first time in the surface cage blew my mind. The crew helped me suit up properly, and taught me how to use the equipment to make sure I was safe. And when I was comfortable, they let me go into the surface cage whenever I wanted.
