Giant Manta Interaction with Divers at Socorro/Revillagigedo Islands

So, over 200 identified Socorro mantas now with lots of resightings and many thanks to everybody who sent manta images and video in to Bob and Karey over the summer. Karey made one especially interesting comment to me that she was able to positively identify several animals a day or two apart at different islands from images taken by our guests. One wonders if the mantas preceded the Nautilus Explorer or followed us??

Dust Storms and Forest Fires

Locals here in Ensenada are telling us that they have never seen such sustained and strong Santa Ana outflow winds. The good news is that the downtime gave us an extra 5 days to catch up on painting, varnishing, carpentry, welding repairs and such. The bad news is that winds blew up such a choking dust storm that it was impossible to get any painting done until the winds finally died down this morning.

Back in the driver’s seat

We are berthed in the harbour of Cabo San Lucas and in the midst of turnaround day. Our guests disembarked at 0900 and we are now hurriedly cleaning, washing, tidying, provisioning, fixing stuff and generally scurrying around getting ready for our next group at 1700. After that, we’ll be sailing off into the sunset for a lovely dinner at sea and overnight run down to Isla San Benedicto.

Gentle headsea from San Benedicto Island to Cabo San Lucas

They had a great trip to the Revillagigedo Islands (Socorro Island), with lots of giant manta ray sightings and behaviour, some pretty darn good sharking (including our first-ever sighting of 100 plus schooling juvenile silvertip sharks) and good humpback whale behaviour.
