Captain’s Noon Reports – Belle Amie – 2022-01-29

We got underway last night around 2100 for Isla Socorro, where we anchored this morning at Punta Tosca. The dives so far this morning have been decent. Dive one had one manta seen by most groups and a couple of hammerheads off in the blue near the transmitter. The second dive was slower, with just one or two distant hammerheads and no mantas. Still, this site is entertaining with the topography and the corals. Lots of reef fish. Divers are enjoying the day. We will do one more dive here and then get underway for the Navy Inspection, finishing the day with silky snorkel at Cabo Pearce.

With some still slightly unpleasant motion in the ocean we relocated to Canyon for dinner before getting underway for Roca. Our overnight transit was relatively smooth and we arrived here to anchor at 0600.

Today Punta Toscas has been amazing, the first dive was unforgettable, around four black mantas and 2 chevrons, many silver tips and silky sharks in the area, visibility around 90 ft, and light current. For the 2nd one the mantas stayed with us and finally a school of hammerheads was there we were able to dive with them, diving conditions same as the first one just the current increase a little bit.

Today the first dive was amazing at the Boiler many mantas below the water and at the surface, dolphins arrived to say hello to all divers. The 2nd dive at the boiler was kind of calm because we encountered a manta but that was it, it stayed with us for a while, a couple of reef fish, bonitas fish, moderated current, our plan is to finish the day here at the Canyon and then prepare everything for departure tomorrow at 4 am.
