Matt: Giant Manta, Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins, Hammerhead Sharks and a Whale Shark all seen in one 25 minute dive: Excellent.  You can’t compress more good things into 25 minutes than that!  For me, by far, the greatest dive of the week. Corey: Tiger Shark, Dolphins, Giant Manta Rays: just another crappy dive on the Nautilus […]

Location: The Canyon dive site, Islas San Benedicto, Revillagigedo’s, Baja California Mexico A day at sea could not be more pleasant. If we reached the forecast values for our transit we’d be content for a tranquil crossing, but our voyage was made all the milder by a minuscule chop and a light, amiable swell on our […]

Location: Punta Tosca, Socorro Island, Revillagigedo’s, Mexico Today was one of this just magic days. One of this dives that will be in the memory of us who dived it for the rest of our life. Direct on our decend at Punta Tosca we get visual contact with giant manta and dolphins. And they stay […]

Location: Punta Tosca, Socorro Island, Revillagigedos, Mexico Started the day with an inspection at the Navy base. It was nice recognizing and meeting with the officials from last year, updating on what’s been going on with all of us over the last couple of months and discussing the illegal fishing situation.  The Mexican navy has been very […]

Interesting bottlenose dolphin behaviour at Socorro Island

Divers saw the usual complement of electric rays, Socorro lobster, silky, Galapagos and hammerhead sharks, but their most spectacular encounter was with a single bottlenose dolphin who adopted the divers. We’ve been seeing similar behaviour from the dolphins all winter, where they hang out and literally imitate the divers. If a diver hangs on to the ascent line, the dolphin will rest the underside of his head on the line. If a diver blows bubbles, the dolphins will blow bubbles. If a diver does a 360-degree roll, the dolphin will do a full roll (well actually, they tend to be somewhat playful and will often do a 720-degree roll or even a triple barrel roll).
