  • Hola from Silvia – one of everyone's favourite hostesses!!!!

I’m back again, I’m Silvia from the Nautilus Explorer, finally we are back at Socorro Island after some great trips in Guadalupe!!!! It was a super trip with good weather, sea conditions and fantastic diving!!! This is the  boiler, one of my favorite dive sites of San Benedicto Island… the visibility was almost 120 feet clear. I went around the rock, saw a lot of different types of fish, lobsters and I had a little bit of swell, but it was really fun and in my safety stop I had a beautiful companion for a while!! A beautiful manta at my shoulder…. 🙂 Nice to be diving one more time….

  • Another blog from Silvia on station at Lupita (her nickname for Guadalupe Island)

Hola, Again!! One more great trip.. this time with a group of 25 French people. A lot of sharks and happy people. When we were leaving the island, the scenario was amazing… how big and beautiful it is with a nice sunset, that’s the way I decide to introduce you to Lupita (my nickname for Guadalupe)!!! Guadalupe is a Mexican Oceanic Island at 240km S.W. of Ensenada, Baja California. Its a marine biosphere. You can see sea lions, California sea lions and elephant seals. Also, a lot of species of fish such as yellow fin tuna, sometimes Mako shark, blue sharks and of course the Great White Shark. Since 2005 boats have been coming here to cage dive the the great white shark. The visibility of the water is so good that sometimes it is about 150 feet clear. That is why I think that Guadalupe is the top place to see them. – Hostess Silvia 🙂

  • What love and passion for someone will make you want to do!

Hola, This is Silvia from the Nautilus Explorer… This trip was really special for me, I have been meeting a lot of people all year, but it is always nice to see people come back again. That means they like the experience and everything about the trip! I mentioned this because on this particular trip a few of our guests have been on our trips before. Mike and Becky from Panama have done the Guadalupe Island trip for the third year in a row, it was nice to have them onboard these past five days. We have been friends since then. Mike is so passionate about the sharks that he didn’t even take his wetsuit off…he spent his time on the dive deck waiting  just in case there was an open space to go into the submersibles ….. we even had to bring  his food to him.  He is so cute, he is like 75 years old and Becky, his wife, comes on the trips because of him. She goes in the water just once, she is a non-diver but she still enjoyed being onboard. What Love and Passion for someone will make you want to do!!!! – Silvia

  • Silvia, one of our amazing hostesses, and her friend Bruce, the great white shark.

Hi, this is Silvia again, finishing another wonderful and fun trip…… I would like to talk this time about my favorite shark ever… Bruce!!! Bruce is an amazing shark, he is the second biggest male shark that is tagged at Guadalupe, 16 feet long with a small beady eyes, and both sides of his face has spots that look like big freckles. Bruce has a big scar by the right eye that scientists think was done by a California Sea Lion. Bruce travels back and forth from Hawaii to Guadalupe Island. He has been in Guadalupe since 2003 and I hope he stays around longer, therefore, it is very important to protect them…. I hope one day you will have the privilege to see him swimming around you!!!! 🙂 – Hostess Silvia

  • Guest and Crew blog – I watched in awe as the large shark passed by me – Socorro island – 06 mar 2011

Today I got the chance to swim with sharks. I never thought I’d be the type of person to get in the water if I knew there were sharks swimming around but I have learned a lot more about sharks and decided that it was time to conquer my fear. I had only been in the water for maybe 5 minutes when a large oceanic white tip shark swam past. I watched in awe as the large shark passed by me.  Only when it came back and then proceeded to circle me– did I feel fear.  When it decided to swim up toward me, I wasn’t sure what to do and so I kept very very still. We maintained eye contact the shark and I and before things changed for the worse I moved quickly and aggressively toward the Oceanic white tip. It was then that the shark turned and swam away deciding that I was not worth checking out any further– what an amazing experience!!! – Hostess Chris Ceu azul e mar idem. • Hostess Kate Chucks it all to Jump in the Water – Crew and Guest Blog – 13 DEC 2010 – Roca Partida, Socorro Island

What a day! I’ve been to Socorro Island numerous times, but never during the early season. I never would have thought it could be so different! Today was our first day of diving at Roca Partida, my favorite dive site in the world (so far). Upon leaving San Benidicto and having no luck seeing Mantas, the guests were asking me what Roca is like and why I loved it so much. Roca Partida is magical. That’s really the only way I can describe it. It’s not much to look at (literally a rock in the middle of nowhere) from above, but I have had the best luck and most amazing dives here. I’ve been diving nose to nose with dolphins for 15+ minutes, swam with turtles, seen schools of hammerhead sharks, seen a manta or two… After the second dive today, I was bringing drinks out to the first divers back, and one diver very casually said he swam with a whale shark. I thought he was kidding. I have never seen a whale shark. They have been my ‘unicorn’ for some time now. I’ve narrowly missed them on several occasions, so I was ecstatic! I asked Steve, one of…
