The highlights had to be up close and personal encounters with sea lions and a school of 30-40 mobula rays right above my head! This is the biggest school I have ever seen in 10 years diving and I hope there will be more schools to see later in the trip!

On the other dives we were watching sea lions and the fish life that has definitely been showing the effect of protecting this as a park. Snappers and Groupers are much bigger and in larger groups. We are also seeing much more of the grown up Bumphead parrot fish than ever before. Two days in the Sea of Cortez with flat sea and a different sea than where we are going, a very rich “Fishy sea.”

We had around 10 sharks with us, two of which were large heavily pregnant females around 8ft long! We also saw a school of squid and the silky sharks hunting small baitfish! At one point I saw a silky actually catch a fish! I felt a bit sad for the little guy but it was a pretty incredible spectacle of nature to behold!

Today at El Boiler we had hawksbill turtles, dolphins, mantas, silvertip sharks, galapagos sharks. On our last dive of the day something magical happened. The chevron manta that was checking at us during the last 20 minutes on the dive, came to say goodbye when we left the reef to do our safety stop…
