We found big Galapagos sharks, a school of hammerheads, some silky sharks, and a Tiger shark! The icing on the cake was passing lots of black and chevron mantas and a Mobula ray, all at eye contact distance.

Thanks to our spotter plane, we are now able to spot them quite easily, they normally congregate in groups of up to 10,000! We notice they are more active and breach more often when the sun goes down, we call it ”the sunset show”. One of the coolest behaviours Katie and I enjoy watching is the courtship behaviour, when a small group of males chases a female, she often times try to be evasive twisting and turning in different directions while the males mirror her movements, from above it looks like a beautiful slow-motion dance.

El Canyon was incredible with the diversity including a school of hammerheads, a few juvenile silvertips, a couple of really big Galapagos sharks, some juvenile Dusky sharks, a few chevron mantas and 2 amazing tiger sharks.

Another day, another awesome Manta dive on the Nautilus UnderSea! Our dive guides, Sten and Juan seem to summon them to us with their amazing telepathic skills – either that or we have just been lucky. Seriously though, we have dived all over the world and have never met mantas so curious and friendly.

What really made the dives special was the Mobula rays. On every dive we did here (5 total), we saw Mobula and I don’t mean one or two. I mean many, and the action was constant for the whole of our dives sometimes.
